The Program

Our program works with clients at multiple levels. Our initial session identifies some of the goals that need to be achieved. We then progress through a series of levels. Our perspective is that anyone can fall into an unhealthy behavior. It is our role to make that a thing of the past. You need not identify yourself as an addict all your life. It’s not who you are that’s important; It’s what you do.

THE METHOD

Recognize:

First we need to recognize the challenge. For some clients this may be a reduction in the use of alcohol, for other the elimination of a serious narcotic. Our path ahead is dictated by an understanding of the impact of the addiction or abuse of a substance.

Analyze:

An accurate idea of the amount of a substance that is being used is our next step. We look for ways to measure the use and result of the addiction. This is the early stages of building success metrics. Ultimately we will measure several factors that contribute to success – understanding these from the outset is important.

Working with our counselors you will identify the key causes of anxiety that underlie your addiction. These are often the causes that either caused or feed your addiction.

Respond:

Using a number of tools and practices you will begin managing aspects of your life that affect your addiction. Simply saying ‘Don’t use that’ or ‘Don’t put that in your body’ does little or no good. Having identified what has an effect on your use we will adjust that aspect of your life, and then remove the addiction.

This is a process that uses therapy, diet, physical exercise and education to move you ahead. Any system that fails to address physical, emotional and social aspects of addiction is of little practical value. Our program touches all these points – some in considerable detail.

Clients are expected to fulfill various activities and commitments during the course of their treatment. These are chosen to reinforce the effects of treatment.

On going support – for life.

Once the situation is under control clients can choose to maintain their connection with us, or choose to move forward alone. We review the success metrics periodically to ensure nothing is slipping - as this will likely suggest a move backwards. It is quite normal for clients to maintain a one-visit-a-month level of contact with us. No client is left after initial treatment feeling they have been abandoned. We remain available whenever a client feels a need to have a ‘top up’.

Typically a client will move through our program over a period of three or four weeks. They then maintain contact at a level they are comfortable with. In very extreme circumstances we will see a client daily. Some of our out of town visitors see us daily and work through the system quite literally spending 8 – 10 hours a day on their program. Whatever is most appropriate we will apply to your situation.
