Overcome Depression.

The Antidepressant trap Validation

Here's what one client said about working on depression using hypnosis:

"Hi Rob,

I've been telling people about you ever since last Thursday, when you first saw me.  I felt great the next day.  And a couple of days later I remember walking down the street with my head up.  It dawned on me what I was doing and I couldn't help but smile.  So I was walking down the street with my head held high and this dumb smerk on my face.  I haven't done that since I can remember.  You were a part of what made this happen and I'd like to thank you.

K"

Living With Depression

Many of us live beneath the specter of depression.  For those that have never experienced it, it seems hard to understand or even adequately describe. And yet it afflicts many of us. It often causes (and is subsequently made worse by) anxiety.

Prolonged untreated depression saps energy and affects our health in many ways. Our immune system is taxed, we are tired and lack focus. Our work and relationships suffer, and our general health can fail. People suffering from depression often see their doctors with apparently unrelated issues, resulting in five times the number of visits compared to individuals who do not suffer from depression.

How do I know I am suffering from depression?

Take this simple test:

Feel free to forward this link to others and compare results. It's a simple six question test that gives an indicator of whether or not you are suffering from depression.

We offer powerful solutions forf managing and in many cases overcoming depression completely. Anyone suffering from depression needs to grasp one basic fact from the start. If you do not change what you do, you will not change how you feel. It sounds so simple. Motivation is often lacking; sometimes just keeping on going is as much as one can do.

Typically a client working to overcome serioous depression will see a hypnotherapist three to five times over a three or four week period. Please take a thorough look through this site - we have extensive experience working on depression and substantial success in this field. Many aspect of this site will help you - even if you never become a client of Vancouver Addiction Centre!

The short film below is a great example of how outside stimuli can lift us. Have a look at it if you have time. It’s only ten minutes or so long.

The root of some forms of depression lies in difficulties related to separation and marital difficulties. You may find some of the material from our Separated But Thriving Course of value. You can find some of that material linked below:

Intro The break-up Emergency Checklist #1 How to combat rage Men and Food. Defences against bullying How much do you choose to hurt?
I feel like I am always wrong! Avoiding Self destruction.

We often recommend a particular book to clients. Dale Carnegie wrote a book called 'Stop Worrying And Start Living.' It was published in 1944 and is as relevant today as it was in those days of war and recovery from the depression. He captures a moment and incisively cuts to the issues. His writing is still about the best source of help outside of a hypnotherapists office.

We offer viable alternatives to anyone suffering from depression. Give me a call or request an appointment below.

The Antidepressant Trap

The prescription of antidepressants seems to be the only solution offered by the medical profession. And yet there is no test for depression, and in many cases prescription is based on a fleeting knowledge of the patient gained from a consultation lasting less than ten minutes.  To make matters worse, the addictive nature of antidepressants mimics the causes of depression during withdrawal from the drug – and so the patient is often left mistakenly believing that they need the pharmacy. Fortunately in some countries the authorities are re evaluating antidepressant usage. .

In the UK The Lancet (the leading medical journal) expressed outrage that GlaxoSmithKline had issued an internal memo encouraging the ‘management of recent research data’ that showed Paxil was no more effective than a placebo in children. Subsequently the selective reporting of the performance of antidepressants has come under scrutiny. So much so that the prescription of antidepressants to children and adolescents is virtually illegal.  Its use in adults is questionable at best. Increasingly the medical profession is becoming aware that antidepressants can in many (probably most) cases actually cause more problems than they solve. Addiction to antidepressants (tactfully rephrased as ‘dependence’ in the packaging) is now common place.
There are many alternatives to antidepressants. Hypnotherapy is one.
